We have a lovely stable of small estates located throughout the most prestigious appellations of Bordeaux. Each of them frequently flies below the public radar that is reserved for the historically prominent classified growths that are not only high-profile wines but high priced as well. Despite the lack of attention that has been paid by the press over the years to these growers, we are particularly proud of the work that has been, and continues to be, done at these domaines. The very fine 2005 vintage is the perfect moment to introduce you to these gems or, if you know them and love their wines as we do, you will have the opportunity to cellar your favorites from this compelling year.

Château Saint Jean de Lavaud, Lalande de Pomerol, 2005. This tiny estate of 1.1 hectares is appended to its sister property, Vieux Maillet, just across thecid:765423118@30092007-2E17 border in Pomerol. Composed almost exclusively of merlot, the St. Jean de Lavaud has risen to the top rung of this satellite appellation as a result of the careful attention paid to yields and the rigorous work done in the vineyards to showcase the attributes of this intriguing and often unexplored terrain: marked by licorice and black cherry notes in the nose and on the palate; subtle and suave tannins grace the finish. The result is  a well-colored and strikingly distinguished wine that flaunts its proximity to the noblesse of Pomerol. Advance offering: $475.00 cs.

Château Vieux Maillet, Pomerol, 2005. A fine addition to our portfolio since our first purchase of this wine in the cid:765423118@30092007-2E1E1994 vintage; a wine again dominated (85%) by merlot, there has been stunning progress at Vieux Maillet over the years; a complex wine that displays multiple types of berry fruit (from red to blue to black) married to the generous and silky tannins of ripe m erlot; and there is also the necessary discipline of its essential minerality that lingers in the finish to complete this classic Pomerol. Advance offering: $729.00 cs.

Château Haut Segottes, Saint Emilion Grand Cru, 2005. Our history with Danielle Meunier and Haut Segottes extends back to the 1977 vintage; Haut Segottes is one cid:765423118@30092007-2E25of our longest serving offerings and certainly stands as a paragon of excellence. Madame Meunier has never failed to produce a proper wine no matter the meteorological vagaries. With vineyards placed on the prestigious Plateau de Corbin, Haut Segottes offers a classic Saint Emilion with cedar and spice and everything nice; but, beware, there is a firm backbone to this wine that comes from the substantial amount of cabernet franc that partners with its sister cepage of m erlot; the ’05 is somber, rich, dense; a wine of perfect balance. Advance offering: $495.00 cs. (Note:  Also available are half bottles [24/375ml case] and magnums [6/1.5ltr case]: $549.00 cs.)

MONTEVERTINE Pian del Ciampolo   2005

Note: This advance offering closes on Friday, October 12, 2007. The wine is due to arrive in mid-November.

cid:765423118@30092007-2E2C

Our recently formed relationship with the Manetti family and their splendid estate of Montevertine has already produced multiple rewards. The pleasures of presenting the wines of this Tuscan standard bearer, the stalwart supporter of the fine Sangiovese, are many. The understated, dignified and regal wines of Montevertine reflect the character and soul of the Manettis. Martino Manetti has proven to be a fine successor to his father, Sergio. The results are obvious, and we are honored to present the newest release: the Pian del Ciampolo 2005.

Montevertine, Pian del Ciampolo, 2005. The 2005 bottling is a classic version of this cuvée. The complex fruit of slightly bitter red cherry dominates the wine in its youth. It is gentle, silky, and seductive with a hint of grainy tannins to flesh out its finish. The 2005 is a complete wine that demonstrates the particular grace and intelligence that marks all of the Montevertine wines. The Pian del Ciampolo represents exceptional value: a reasonable way to indulge in the greatness of Montevertine.  Advance offering: $299.00 cs.

Also available and little left in stock, is the Montevertine Pergole Torte 2003, the flagship wine of this Chianti estate. $95.00 bt, $999.00 cs.

We hope you will participate in this special presentation.
